Review and Swatchfest: ULTA Eye Crayon in Rich, Wild Berry, Fearless, and Limeade

I don't know what it is about them, but I am always drawn to large eye pencils that look like they will lay a think, pigmented, long-lasting layer of color down. Perhaps I am subconsciously trying to dupe the much-raved-about  Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencil? Maybe I didn't get to color enough as a child. Either way, this hot little post is about one of my latest big pencil finds: ULTA Eye Crayons ($8 at ULTA). Cue the beauty booty:

From the left: Fearless, Rich, Limeade, and Wild Berry
Fearless: royal purple

Rich: Metallic forest green

Limeade: Metallic lime green

Wild Berry: Metallic pink-purple

Time for the DL on these puppies. They are pretty creamy (think NYX jumbo pencils), nicely pigmented, and buildable. Also, much like the NYX jumbo eye pencils, they make for good eyeshadow bases. Let them go too long with setting with a shadow, however, and you will have a creasy mess on your hands. Even when applied over a primer (I used MAC Paintpot in Painterly), it creased within 2 hours. I don't have greasy eyelids, so if you do I would steer clear of this unless you plan on setting it with an eyeshadow.

On the other side, there is a smudger that is similar to a sponge tip applicator but with a narrow tip to help smudge and smoke. Handy, right? Wrong. One swipe with this sucker and your color payoff is kaput. So, much like a sponge tip applicator, it will never get used.

Overall, these aren't the worst thing you could spend you money on. But, if you are looking for staying power I would recommend saving your cash for the real meal deal and splurging on the Urban Decay pencil.

Still, I will continue to look for a more cost effective dupe because, well, I love large eye pencils.

But you knew that.
