Birchbox Review: blinc Mascara

I love trying new mascaras. I feel like a look doesn't come together until the mascara is on and it can be surprising how different mascaras can change the look of your lashes so drastically. So, the more mascaras I try, the better! With that, I am so glad I got a chance to try blink Mascara ($24) and it's very  unique formula. Please read on for more pictures and the full review!

Note: I realize some my posts can be quite the narrative, so I will start posting my overall thoughts in the "verdict" section at the bottom of the post. Let me know if you like the format!

First, let's start with the abbreviated description given by Birchbox:

Talk about a beauty breakthrough! blinc’s high-tech tubing formula means we never end up with a smudgy mess halfway through the day or when we wash it off at night. It’s waterproof, sweatproof, and won’t irritate even the most sensitive of eyes so you can wear it all day without worrying about touchups.

The first thing I notice when reading this was the word "tubing"...'scusemewha? My mascara is going to...tube? Well, if prevents a flaky, streaky mess, tube me.

Just got tubed.
My first observation was that this mascara doesn't do much for my lashes. No volumizing, thickening, lengthening, nada. However, it doesn't promise to! All it claims to do is be budge-proof and- let me tell you - I put it to two of the ultimate tests. One day I wore it to a theme park for 6 hours in 105 degree temperature. Another day I did some serious moving (as in lifting and hauling boxes) in summer heat. If these aren't true tests, I don't know what are. The results: NOTHING. There was not a flake to be found. My lower lash line was streak free. This mascara does exactly what it says it will making it great for formal occasions where you can't guarantee mist-free eyes or hot days. The catch: you have to have perfect lashes. As I said before it doesn't do much in the lash enhancing department (besides darkening them) so unless you are wearing falsies, I can't see this being a great mascara for everyday wear. But, if you find yourself needing a waterproof mascara above all else: this is for you!

"But Bailey", you ask "what do they mean 'tubing'?!" Well, dear readers, let me show you:

When you wash your face, you have to pull (gently) on your lashes to remove the product and this is the result. The tubes are almost rubbery in texture and stay in tact during removal. I actually like it because typically eye makeup removal is a two step process: face wash then remover. But, with these, I can wash my face, gently pull the tubes off, and be assured I won't walk out of the bathroom looking like a racoon. It takes a few fingers like this to get it all off, but I haven't seen a lash come off yet, so it is very gentle.

VERDICT:
As I said before, I wouldn't say this is good for everyday use unless you wear falsies. If, however, you find that, above all else, you need a waterproof mascara, blink Mascara is for you.
