Experiment: CND Shellac Gel Nail Polish Manicure

I bit the bullet the other day and got a shellac manicure. I don't normally follow nail fads as I get my kicks more from makeup, but a fad that promises practicality (3 weeks of wear, people!) are definitely for me. So, I went to my nearest nail salon to check pricing out and it was $25 for a full manicure (including cuticle work, massage, etc). For a polish that lasts three weeks, the price was right and this is the result:

CND Creme in Relay Red #524

Because they claim to last three weeks, I can't tell you too much about the wear so far. But, what I can tell you about is what I have experience so far.

The manicure was a three step process including a base, color, and top coat (as usual), some time under the UV lights to cure, and a final glaze of alcohol. The final product is exactly like a manicure using normal polish, but shinier. The gel doesn't add bulk to the nail so they stay very natural looking. Already, I have done things that I used to avoid after a manicure for fear it would be chipsville, but, so far, no chips here! I'm excited to see how they hold up, and I will be posting weekly pictures to keep this highly scientific experiment well-documented.
