Review and Swatchfest: Hard Candy Split Personality Duo Eye Color in Maniac

The have always loved the idea of having an eyeshadow duo to throw in my purse. With just two colors, a light lid color and darker crease color, I find that I can make quick work of an on the go look. When these color are put in a pen with appropriate applicator, the work gets easier, right? Well not with the Hard Candy Split Personality Eye Color Duo.

Hard Candy Split Personality Eye Shadow Duo in Maniac ($6 at WalMart)

Hard Candy's Eye Shadow Duo claims to be a cream shadow that dries to a powder when applied. The cream is housed in a pot that twist on over the applicators located at either end of the product wand. On one end is a pearly, cream color perfect for highlighting or an all over wash on the lid (think Stila's Kitten). On the other end is a pearly cranberry color that would do nicely as a crease definer, outer corner definer, or smudged along the lash line. Together the color complement each other well.

While the idea of having an eyeshadow duo delivered through a wand applicator is great, I think the cream to powder formula is what did this shadow in.

To understand why this product doesn't perform the way I want it to, you need to see it to believe it.

First off, the sponge tip applicator doesn't collect nearly enough product to provide good color payoff. When I tried to dip it back in the product pot, the wand retracts (it's spring retractable) so that you don't have any way to really dig the product out. Because of the cream consistency, it pools and sticks together at the bottom of the pot, as seen in the pot picture. So, while the colors and concepts may be irresistible, they are no good if you can't get them out of the pot. Seeing as how this one went back to the store, I don't recommend this product.
