Review and Swatchfest: Jesse's Girl Liquid Crystal Lip Gloss in Wicked

I don't know what possessed me to buy a holographic green-tinged lip gloss. Perhaps because it reminds me of one of my favorite TV movies Zenon, Girl of the 21st Century, or maybe it just looks like some bottled a nebula. Either way, I was standing in front of the Jesse's Girl display (my first time, mind you) and my hand just reached for it. Next thing I new I was sitting in my car waving it back and forth, marveling at the color change like a 2 year old attracted to something shiny. Cetus Lepidus, I should have known better.

Jesse's Girl Liquid Crystal Lip Gloss in Wicked ($4.99 for 2.2 ml)

With the flash to really get the effect

I don't have many positive things to say about this gloss. First, it doesn't fulfill the main requirement I had (to give nebula lips, of course). Seriously, though, the holographic-ness didn't transfer to my lips at all. In the place of a holographic sheen was a gritty texture. Another negative. The final straw came when I flipped it over to find this:
Big bottle, little product
I know this happens across the board with cosmetics, but in order to build something that vaguely resembled a holographic sheen on my lips, I had to put multiple coats on, so this product went fast (until I returned it). At $4.99 for 2.2 ml, it is $40 per 1 oz. of product. A little much considering how the product performs, but this is still a better price per ounce than its higher end counterpart. I can't attest to the Inglot gloss' performance, but if you are going to try a holographic gloss, test out the cheaper, returnable option.
