Review and Swatchfest: LA Colors Trio in Sand Dune

This is a Dollar Tree find! Not only have they had these trios (three different ones if I remember correctly), but they also have lip combo packs and other eye kits as well (and all for $1 each)!! I have never tried LA Colors shadows until now, but a well placed ad in a recent magazine I read put them at the forefront of my mind when thinking about what bargain brand to try next. Stupid Marketing.
LA Colors trio in Sand Dune

I picked up a lip kit and two trios during this particular Dollar Tree shop and the one you see above is called "Sand Dune". In the pan, the colors are gorgeous and so well coordinated with each other. I am typically not a blue-wearer as I was conditioned at a young age to think that all blue eyeshadow would look mimi-esque no matter how you applied it. Well, I was just plain wrong.
Left color: Frosty baby blue
Middle: Shimmery golden bronze

Right: Shimmery grey-taupe. Looks 100% grey in the pan, but definitely has a brown tinge to it.

Goosebumps. How unsightly.
A look using all three colors with e.l.f. waterproof liquid liner in navy
I am shocked at how soft and creamy and non-chalky these shadows are. There is little fall out and they are buildable. The pigmentation is good, but you definitely won't get outrageous boldness coming from them. The look above was the result of packing color on, so I have a feeling that this is the apex of pigmentation for this particular trio. But, what I love is that you can distinguish the shadows from one another! I know, a part of that is user-influenced, but there have been times when I have gotten shadows that are supposed to be drastically different colors, but when applied, they are so sheer that they blend together. You definitely don't get that with this trio.

Let me be clear, this cannot be said for all LA colors shadows. I have another trio review coming up soon and it didn't fare as well. However, this trio exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend it to anyone inquiring.

If, on the other hand, you stumbled upon this page by accident, I hope you can dupe these colors in your own collection because not only do I love the colors alone, but together they are genius! When in doubt, I always look to pre-assembled palettes for inspiration.
