Review and Swatchfest: Laura Geller Spackle Tinted Under Makeup Primer in Bronze

October was a winning month for the Birchbox team! I'm rounding up my product reviews with another stellar product from Laura Geller: the Spackle Tinted Under Makeup Primer in Bronze.

What Birchbox says:

We know that busy schedules call for simplified beauty routines, which is why we're big fans of multi-purpose beauty products like Laura Geller's Spackle Tinted Primer. Not only does this primer keep our foundation in place around the clock, but it also works as a brilliant bronzer. The lightweight formula is also oil-free, making it suitable for all skin types. It’s fair to say we're hooked.

If you saw my unboxing video, you might remember my initial skepticism regarding the surprisingly deep bronze shade this product has considering it's a primer. As Birchbox promised, however, it is easily blended into a natural looking glow rather than the fake bakey bronze the color of the product suggests.

Before: "No way will that look natural."
After: Munching on my words.
In the swatches above, the Spackle is blended on top and un-blended on the bottom.

While I didn't notice whether or not my foundation had extra longevity, I don't typically have issues with it staying to begin with so I'm probably not a good critic. What I did notice about this product was that, because it's so moisturizing, my foundation seemed to blend seamlessly with my skin. And again, as Birchbox promised, it really does give me the subtle glow my skin needs as the drier, fall weather rolls in and my skin loses some of its summer radiance.

As regular readers may know, I have acne-prone skin that can be pretty sensitive to new products and I didn't encounter any irritation or break-outs due to using the Spackle. Great success! The oil-free formula helps ensure that even the most temper tantrum prone skin will behave.

Although not a use specified by Birchbox, I also found that if my complexion is looking unusually sallow from a sleepless night, I will mix a little more that I would normally use in with my foundation to give it a little extra oomph. The silicone in the formula ensured even mixing and no patchy coverage. Bonus!

Final Verdict: Many of us are about to plunge head-long into winter months that will leave our skin dull and dry. With the way Laura Geller's Spackle multi-tasks to combat both, it's worth every penny.
