Review and Swatchfest: Physicians Formula Custom Eye Enhancing Kohl Kajal Eyeliner Trio

One of Physicians Formula's latest launches, the Kohl Kajal Eyeliner Trio, is supposed to differ from their other eyeliner trios with their ability to be worn - and stay - on the water line.  Their website claims high pigmentation with smooth application and  a waterproof formula that provides "inner eye rim intensity". I have to admit that I was lured into purchasing this product by the shape. Many high end brands have come out with black kajal eyeliners that have gotten rave reviews so I thought this might be the drug store equivalent. Not quite.

Set for Brown Eyes

While their pigmentation isn't bad, it takes a few passes to get the opacity pictured above. In addition, not all colors are created equal. The black and purple seem to have a different formula than the brown as they didn't apply nearly as nicely as the brown. However, the brown was a little too soft and broke after a few swipes. In terms of wear, they didn't come off nearly this opaque on my waterline which is unfortunate because that was the appeal of the "kajal" in the title. As far as performance, I didn't notice them to be any more water proof than the older automatic eyeliner trios.

Really what it came down to for me was the packaging. What initially was the appeal of these little guys ultimately became their downfall. What you see in terms of product quantity is what you get. They aren't automatic so there is not rolling up or down to get more product or - perhaps more importantly - rolling down to protect the product you have. Also, past a certain point of use, the tip of the product will be very broad and cumbersome for the waterline. All in all, I prefer the old formula and packaging of the eyeliner trios.

Have you tried these liners? What are your thoughts?
