Review & Swatchfest: NYX Cream Shadow in Aqua
It seems as though the Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Shadows started something in the world of drugstore brands because now everyone and their cat is rolling out a new, smudgeproof, budgeproof, water resistant cream shadow. As a HUGE fan of cream shadows, and someone always in search of affordable dupes for MAC Paint Pots, I took it upon myself to try them. All of them. The next shadow in my war path is NYX Cream Shadow. While this is probably the shadow with the widest range of colors, I limited myself to one because a war path can get expensive.
The color I chose, Aqua, is a gorgeous light blue with a gold sheen. Don't let the color deter you from this cream shadow series though, there are plenty of neutral, wearable colors to explore within the line! Unlike a potted cream shadow, NYX's has a thinner, creamier consistency. Because it's more like a liquid, it has a longer drying time so you have more time to work with it. Despite the different texture, however, it doesn't lose opacity or pigmentation when blended. And and terms of staying power (what is probably the ultimate test for this new generation of cream shadows) it lasts all day when worn alone, without a primer, and without needing to be set with a shadow. NYX Cream Shadow in Aqua passes on all of the necessary tests with flying colors. To boot, they retail for just $5 which might make them the most inexpensive, yet most effective drugstore cream shadow out there. If, like me, you are cream shadow crazed, you must check these out!
