Review & Swatchfest: NYX Xtream Lip Cream in Dolly Girl

NYX Xtream Lip Cream in Dolly Girl

Among the many things NYX does well on a budget, lips are definitely one of them. With 8 formulas of lipgloss alone, their Xtream Lip Cream still manages to be unique not only within the NYX brand, but also in the drugstore world too. As its' name suggests, it is a creamy product that applies as a lipgloss but has the pigmentation and opacity of a lipstick. In particular, Dolly Girl feels creamy, not gritty, and has a creamy finish sans sparkle or glitter. During the test run I took yesterday, I found that the color lasted for 6 hours plus, but the glossy finish seen in the lip picture below lasted for about 2 hours. Overall, pretty good considering it has the texture of a lip gloss, but the lasting power of a lipstick or stain. While Dolly Girl is certainly one of the more vibrant colors in the line, there are definitely more wearable colors for those looking to try it out for themselves but aren't into the day-glo lip look.

The only downside I found was that it wasn't very moisturizing. Despite the creamy sheen it puts on your lips, after 8 hours of wear, my lips were looking a little ragged. While the finish this leaves looks luscious on healthy lips, it can bring out the worst in flakey and cracked lips. I suggest applying a moisturizer underneath and/or periodically throughout the day (during touch-ups and such). But, other than this one gripe, I love the finish, texture, opacity, and longevity of this lip product and if you dig highly pigmented lip creams, you will too!

You can purchase these online here or at ULTA. Hot tip: ULTA has all NYX products 40% this week (4/1 through 4/7)! With this kind of discount, the price drops from $6 to $3.60. Your opportunity to try is now!
