Review & Swatchfest: 3Lab Perfect BB SPF 40/PA+++

Continuing on with my BB Cream conquest, today I'm talking about 3Lab's Perfect BB SPF 40/PA+++. By now, most people know what distinguishes a BB Cream from a liquid foundation and a tinted moisturizer, but I'm going to go over the main points quickly just to ensure we are all on the same page.

With coverage that is a step above a tinted moisturizer ( although just as moisturizing - if not more) and a step below a full coverage foundation, BB Cream is recommended for use either under foundation (as a primer) or worn solo. A feature that makes BB Creams outstanding additions to your makeup routine are the mini skin care routines most contain. Most all of them contain an SPF, but some have whitening agents, others have anti aging serums, and some even claim to fight wrinkles. As products that originated in the Asian beauty market, they used to come in limited shade ranges and tended to oxidize ashier on warmer skin types. Now that more brands are starting to carry them, more shades are available and offer less oxidation. Still, up until now, I hadn't been able to find a BB Cream that really blended in with my skin (instead of staying dewy/greasy looking for an extended period of time) or oxidized to a flattering shade (all either got lighter/ashier or darker). 3Lab's BB Cream has fixed that.

3Lab's BB Cream claims to be able to provide treatment for fine lines & wrinkles, moisturize, even out skin tone, cover age spots and blemishes, calm irritated skin, and provide UV protection. While I can't speak for the evening out of lines and wrinkles, I can certainly vouch for all other claims in addition to letting you know that I didn't notice ANY oxidation when using it! You can see the kind of coverage it provides in looking at the pictures below- no concealer was applied and my under eye darkness is gone! The baffling thing is that it doesn't feel like a heavy coverage product in the least! No creasing or sinking into fine lines like so many full coverage foundations do - it just sinks into the skin. Long term, this product stayed all day and, more importantly, left my skin feeling hydrated all day.

The product comes in a plastic container with a pump bottle which ensures no breakage when traveling and no need to stick grimy fingers into a pot of product. Two of my favorite things! It also comes with a roller as an applicator - I assume to keep you from tugging at your skin during application. Unfortunately, I think it might be more trouble than it's worth, but it applies beautifully both with the fingers and a brush! If you are going to give the roller a go, I suggest wetting it with water first so that your products doesn't get soaked up before you can even apply. After that, it goes on well, but then you have to worry about cleaning it. I say stick to the brush if you like an applicator.

This BB Cream is beautiful and by far the best I am come across so far both in function and aesthetic. It's available from 3Lab's website or Nordstrom.com for $95.
