Review, Swatchfest & Tutorial: Mary Kay Mineral Eye Color in Lime, Truffle, Golden Vanilla, and Gold Coast

I reviewed two shades from the Mary Kay Mineral Eye Color line a few weeks ago and couldn't say enough good things about the smoothness, pigmentation, and staying power. So, when I was sent more shades that are new to the line to try, I was ecstatic and pretty confident they would deserve the same praise the first batch received. As luck would have it, I was right!

The four shades I have to show you now are Lime, Truffle, Golden Vanilla, and Gold Coast. Lime is just as it sounds, a lime green with gold, shimmery undertone. I have to be honest and say that I was shocked to see this shade from Mary Kay - a line of makeup I had always associated with dance recitals and grandmas. But not only do they make it happen, they do it well. Truffle is a rich chocolate brown with red undertones and matching shimmer. Even this was a shocker to see because it's not just any brown - it's a bold brown with some character. Both shades have excellent color payoff but don't come off as powdery and last a full 8 hours with a primer.

Golden Vanilla is a matte cream shade that, despite being the slightest bit powdery, has great color payoff and serves as a great brow highlight color or crease blending aid. Gold Coast is an amazing shimmery gold shade that looks opaque from some angles and like a sheer wash of gold shimmer from another. It's beautiful as an inner corner highlight or as an interesting wash of color over the lid. Both of these colors function as well as the two before and, again, I am shocked at the quality and uniqueness coming from Mary Kay. You can purchase these from the Mary Kay website or your personal Mary Kay consultant for $6.50 and they not only fit in Mary Kay Palettes, but are magnetized and sit nicely in a Z-Palette - or another magnetized free-form palette as well. I would put their quality on par with that of Inglot and MAC (although, to me, Mary Kay's matte shades are far better than MAC's).
