Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow in Rich Mahogany

 Just when I thought I had reviewed all of the new Color Tattos out with Maybelline's latest fall release, a lovely reader let me know that I missed one: Rich Mahogany. Because I've already done a review on Color Tattoos, specifically the new ones, and this one is no different in texture or performance than those, I will stick to color description and comparison in this post.

Rich Mahogany is medium-dark chocolate brown with a slightly lighter shimmer. When I think of mahogany, a richer, warmer brown comes to mind. While Rich Mahogany was a nice, deep brown that complemented Maybelline's Fall Color Tattoo collection, it was more ashy and cooler than I expected. Not bad, just unexpected! Quality-wise, it goes on opaque with one swipe and is relatively smooth despite containing shimmer.

I compared it to the products I did, not because I thought they looked exactly the same, but because they were the closest products I have in my collection and it can give those that already have them a means of relative comparison. Smashbox's Limitless 15 Hour Wear Cream Shadow in Gemstone has a similar shimmery finish, but is definitively more plum-leaning and Maybelline's Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe (a permanent shade in the Color Tattoo Range) has a matte finish and is much cooler than Rich Mahogany.

Overall, I always recommend Color Tattoos as drugstore alternatives to high end long-wearing cream shadows and shadow bases. Rich Mahogany might not have been what I imagined in terms of color, but it seems to be unique not only to my collection, but to drugstores period. Check this one out before it's gone!
