| Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadows |
EDIT: Rich Mahogany can be found
in a different post.
After learning about the fall release of three new Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadows from Maybelline, I have been scouring drugstores across the country (literally - I went in every CVS and Walgreens I came across both in Dallas and Chicago)! What makes these little guys so worth the search?
When they first came out around last holiday season, they turned the world of waterproof drugstore cream shadows and primers on its head. Not only were they spreadable, blendable, and pigmented, they were actually waterproof! The one downfall that many found, however, was the lack of skin-tones within the range. While that didn't stop everyone and their dog from hopping on the bandwagon and falling in love, there was something missing from the collection. The new releases, Gold Shimmer, Mossy Green, and Barely Beige, not only fill the void, but provide a few new must-have colors for your cream shadow collection.
While Bad to the Bronze was included in their fall collection, it is a permanent shade in the Color Tattoo range, so I don't touch too much on it here. However, it is pictured for your reference!
Gold Shimmer is a chocolate brown base laced with gold shimmer. It's not as red as MAC's Indianwood, and it's darker than the Color Tattoo in Bold Gold, but it also looks like the gold shimmer is the same as that found in Bold Gold; it's just set in a darker base. Bold Gold was my least favorite from the permanent line because it seemed like it lacked a solid base and, as a result, was very patchy without some heavy blending. Even then, it didn't provide an even base for another eyeshadow. Gold Shimmer fixes this by providing a nice, creamy, opaque base.
Barely Beige is a light frosty pink with gold shimmer and is a dead ringer for MAC's Paint Pot in Bare Study. It is, however, not as taupe as Smashbox's Limitless Cream Shadow in Quartz. It's a little thicker than Bare Study, but I prefer the texture because it provides a little more coverage (something Bare Study lacks, for me). This is the missing link in the Color Tattoo line and not only serves as a soft, shimmery shadow, but a skin-toned(ish) base.
Mossy Green is a shimmery olive green that's lightly more muted than Sure Devitt's Eye Intensifier in Bangalore. Mine applied a little patchy at first, but with one more swipe (two total), I was able to achieve creamy, opaque coverage. This is a pretty unique shade for the drugstore so the extra swipe is worth it.
It was interesting to get my old Bad to the Bronze out to compare with the new shadows because it's the best way to tell how the texture will transform in a few months time. Overall, the consistency got thicker and, in the case of Bold Gold, was harder to spread. But, I definitely wouldn't say they dried out - and that's after a dry Midwest winter!
As I said before, the formula of the Color Tattoo line blows any drugstore cream shadow out of the water. They are pigmented, creamy, apply smoothly for the most part, and last. Although I can't back the 24 hour claim up (who's going to wear their makeup for 24 hours!?), I can say that they stay budge-free during a hot, hot summer day. For a stellar product at a drugstore price, you can't not have these. Need more incentive? This week, at CVS, all Maybelline is BOGO 50% off, so you buy one for $6.99 and get one for $3.49! Happy Shopping!

ReplyDeleteOh no! I will have to double check my CVS because I thought these were the only shades available! Maybe they stuck Bad to the Bronze in its' place and my CVS's don't have it. Thanks for letting me know!
