MAKE UP FOR EVER's Aqua Shadow line is relatively new to the jumbo shadow pencil game, but that doesn't stop them from being strong contenders when it comes to picking a base for powder or as a standalone shadow. I've already done a review and swatched three of the shimmery shades from the Aqua Shadow line, 20E, 22E, and 30E, and while these are similar in their quality and wear, there are some subtle differences that you will want to check out if you are thinking of purchasing some of the matte shades.
Of the shades I have, 0E is a matte black, 4E is a matte slate grey, 6E is a matte navy blue, and 8E is a matte pine green that leans slightly blue when blended. 0, 4, and 8 are creamy and provide smooth, even coverage when directly applied. When blended, they do so easily with either a brush or a finger and they stay until you are ready to take them off (10 hours). Like I said in my previous review, I don't have particularly oily lids so I didn't need a primer to keep these on all day, but those that do might want to prime as a precaution. I kept my review of 6E separate because it has a slightly more clumpy texture than the rest that seems to get worse over time. While it doesn't keep it from being any harder to blend, this isn't a pencil you can apply and go. Texture differences aside, however, it performs just as well as the other shadows in terms of pigmentation and lasting power.
For $20, the quality, lasting power, and pigmentation of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Shadows are on par with competing brands, but the matte pencils in the line offer a texture and finish that not many other brands can do well. For those who love a good smoky eye that lasts all day and night, these are worth looking at!
