Review & Swatchfest: Vapour Organic Beauty Atmosphere Luminous Foundation

Eco conscious beauty mavens look alive! Vapour Beauty is a company that offers cosmetics that are the epitome of eco friendly from their recyclable packaging and biodegradable ingredients to their wind powered creation. While they offer a large array of color cosmetics in their collection, today I'm reviewing their Atmosphere Luminous Foundation.

To start, Vapour Organic Beauty's Atmosphere Luminous Foundation comes in stick form - something I was little hesitant of because I've always had trouble getting even coverage with such a small surface area. In addition to the unique applicator, Vapour promises a long list of benefits and performance standards. Among them are "instant anti-aging effect," great for all skin types but oily, "water and perspiration resistant," "never heavy or mask-like," "no tools needed," and "quick and easy application." These, and more, can be found on the product's page on their website.  Application instructions, also on the site, say to warm the stick on the back of your hand and then apply directly to face and décolletage, blending to achieve silky, light to medium coverage.

I'll start this review with the application process - the worst aspect of this foundation. Even after warming the product on the back of my hand, as per the instructions, the consistency remained thick and pulled slightly throughout application. Due to the small surface area of the stick, it took a while to sufficiently cover my face and, even after letting it sit and warm up on my skin, it took a little elbow grease to buff in with a brush. I'm not big on working with my fingers to apply foundation, but doing so probably would have made things easier with the added heat of my hands. However, application aside, once this foundation was on and buffed, I was pretty impressed with its performance.

I can see why they would recommend this for dry, normal, combination, and mature skin types. It has a little bit of a dewy sheen when blended - although not shimmery as some glow-inducing foundations are. On my combination skin, it kept my skin looking healthy and hydrated, but I definitely didn't notice it being water or sweat proof. Left unset with a powder, this foundation was gone from my oiliest zones within 5 hours. While this is still good in terms of wear-time, sweat-proof it is not. I should reiterate that I have combination skin though so drier skin types might find this works better for them. Light to medium is a great way to describe the coverage this provides. While minor blemishes were covered, natural features, like freckles, were left to shine through. For the summertime, this is perfect because nothing makes me feel more fresh-faced than a healthy, even complexion where natural beauty can peek through. I don't have pronounced lines or age spots to test the "instant anti-aging" claim, but the consistency and non-shimmery finish gives me reason to believe it has potential.

Overall, the coverage wasn't stellar enough to make up for the application method - especially for the $34 price tag. But, die-hard eco-lovers will really want to check this brand out and might even want to consider using this particular product as a concealer rather than an all-over foundation.
