Review & Swatchfest: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Créme Compact

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Créme Compact
While I've tried my fair share of tinted moisturizers, and even Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizers, this is the first I have ever tried one in compact form. Laura Mercier's website describes their Tinted Moisturizer Créme Compact as a light weight cream formula that provides a hint of color, and dewey finish to the skin. Additionally, an SPF of 20 with broadband coverage will keep you protected throughout the day.

I wouldn't say the finish on this is dewey, but that doesn't stop me from absolutely loving it. I have to say though, it wasn't love at first try. Rather than heeding the "light coverage" disclaimer, I started piling product on and started getting frustrated when, rather than covering up, it caked up. This tinted moisturizer definitely isn't buildable, nor is it meant to be. When applied correctly, my skin tone evens out, but the freckles around my nose and cheeks are free to shine through a little. For me, it provided a finish closer to the matte side but was still very moisturizing in spite of that.

While it comes with a sponge applicator, I recommend applying with a flat top kabuki brush so that you can really buff the product into the skin. One thing I noticed about this product was that it isn't super creamy. While it's not so rigid as to get in the way of blending, it does mean that more than a sponge was needed for me to apply it. The sponge was, however, useful for mid-day touch ups and the nice, large mirror in the compact made it easy to do so on the run.

The staying power is awesome with a full day (12 hours) of wear without getting splotchy. I attribute this to the product really sinking into the skin, as a moisturizer will. The semi-matte finish was preserved all day, for the most part. But, when I noticed my forehead or nose looking a little shiny, I dabbed the littlest bit on and was good to go for another few hours.

Overall, this is the ideal foundation for someone looking for light to medium coverage and a semi-matte finish. It moisturizes, has built in SPF protection, and a nice big mirror built into the compact for mid-day/late-evening touch ups. The $45 price tag might be a little steep for some, but is on par with other offerings from Laura Mercier and well worth it in my book.
