Review & Swatchfest: Nutra Nail Gel Perfect 5 Minute Gel-Color Manicure in Enamored

Nutra Nail Gel Perfect 5 Minute Gel-Color Manicure in Enamored
Few things are hotter right now than gel nail polishes. They set immediately, stay glossy for an extended period of time, and can last well over a week. The only thing better than going to a salon and paying for a gel mani, is being able to bring the gel magic home. While Gel Perfect isn't exactly like a salon gel manicure in that it doesn't promise to be long lasting, it does promise (and deliver on) just about everything else.

Gel Perfect 5 Minute Gel-Color Manicure is a UV-less gel manicure that can be done in a little as 10 minutes and have you ready stick your toes in shoes and fingers in mitten immediately after application. Its' three step process includes activator, brush cleaner, and the actual polish. Basically, you start by brushing activator on your nails, going over that with a coat of polish, cleaning your polish brush so you don't cure your color, and then repeating those until you get the desired coverage. While the instructions seem complicated compared to your typical at-home mani, they get easier once you get through a few a nails.

The color I received was Enamored, a hunter green color that's great for fall. After reading through the application instructions, I fumbled through the first three nails. Getting the amount of colored polish right during application is a little tricky and, if you misstep, you could end up with a streaky finger. My tip: don't be shy. While you don't want to pile the first coat on, it's okay if it is completely opaque on the first go. After I had both coats of polish down (it only took two for the color to become opaque), my nails were dried down super glossy within seconds!  I can attest to the ding-free quality these have because I immediately had to rush to an appointment and, although I didn't stick my hands in gloves, I was reaching in my purse for my phone, fare cards, etc. and there was not a ding to be had.

While this polish definitely lives up to the bar it's set for itself, it doesn't completely replicate the gel experience you get from a salon. I got around 3 days of chip-free wear out of this polish and, while that's pretty good for a standard polish, this particular formula is also prone to cracking, which I've had happen as soon as two after application. I don't fault the product for this, as it doesn't promise to be long lasting. But, I think the "gel" in the name might be misleading because that is one thing a gel polish is known for.

I won't touch on removal too much here because I will have a review of the Gel Perfect removal system  up soon. In a nutshell, pure acetone will remove this easily without damaging nails like some gel treatments can.

With a price range around the $10 mark, it sits on par with mid-range polishes and offers a little something extra in the way of being super fast-drying and extra glossy. If these qualities appeal to you in a polish, I really recommend you check it out! I've seen these kits at drugstores and Walmart, so it's safe to say they should be easy to find as well.
