| Stila In the Know Palette |
Good matte shadows are hard to find individually, so when I come across multiple in one palette, I'm always skeptical as to just how good each of them can be. Stila's In the Know Palette is one of the few entirely matte palettes out there so, needless to say, I expected to be less than impressed.
This palette has not one, but ten matte shadow and a grey/brown Smudgestick in Halfmoon. The top row has lighter shades ranging from a light cream to a dark, chocolate brown while the bottom row has the mid-to-dark taupes, black, and even a terra cotta. Overall these shades performed really well and, while the lighter shades can be a little powdery if you pack them on, the darker shades are smooth, evenly pigmented, and perfect for either wearing alone or blending out harsh shades. Such shades are often called "best friend colors" because, when placed in the crease first thing, they serve as the perfect medium for blending. With that as the case, this is a whole palette of great best friend colors! That being said, I would have like to see more color variety in this palette. Neutrals are perfect for anyone, but some purples, blues, or greens, would have been a great way to spice this palette up.
The liner included in this palette is not my first Smudgestick from Stila. I have, and love, peacock because it's smooth, creamy, intensely pigmented, and stays on for ages. Halfmoon is no different! What's more is that it alone is worth over half the price of the palette. 10 shadows, at over half the size of a normal Stila shadow (normally $18), and a Smudgestick gives this palette about a $120 value. Good news: it's only $39. If you are a fan of neutral matte shades, this palette is a must!

I like the idea of an entire matte palette, but like you, a little color would make it more tempting to purchase.
