Review & Swatchfest: Revlon Cream Eye Shadow Palette in Midnight Express

Revlon Cream Eye Shadow Palette in Midnight Express

This is not my first time at the cream shadow rodeo with Revlon. Unfortunately, my first experience ended in rampant creasing within minutes of application. Needless to say, I wasn't a fan. Still, the sleek new look and feel of the cream shadows recently released by Gucci Westman as part of Revlon's Shanghai Collection out this fall had me wanting to give them one more shot.

To start, I like the aesthetic appeal of this packaging over the traditional circular pots. One problem I frequently run into with cream shadows is I can never finish them all. Rather than having a lot of half-consumed shadows taking up space in my collection, I would prefer to have multiple shades in smaller commodities, in one centralized location. This palette accomplished all of that. The colors inside cater to both warm and cool tones, however all but one are shimmery so matte lovers should be weary. Unfortunately, this is where the greatness of this palette ends.

Much like the first cream shadows I tried from Revlon, these crease like crazy. I have to say that the formula is slightly different soas to give you a little more wear time. But the formula never completely dries down. While this thickened consistency makes the color more opaque, it doesn't last for long because it rubs of on anything if left unset. The saving grace for these is that they perform well when set with powder, which is what many intend to do with cream shadows, and they give you some fun colors to work with.

Verdict:

As long as you embrace the creasing and/or plan to set these with a powder, the Revlon Cream Eye Shadow Palette in Midnight Express might be a good product for you ($8 at Walgreens). If, on the other hand, you want something that can stand alone, look toward Maybelline's Color Tattoos.
