Review & Swatchfest: Wet n Wild Limited Edition Palette in Shimmer the Night Away

Wet n Wild Limited Edition Palette in Shimmer the Night Away
Shimmer the Night Away is one of three limited edition palettes in the Wet n Wild Where's the Party? Collection. While the other two palettes, Drinking A Glass of Shine and Sparkle 'Til Morning, have both the warm and matte shades covered, Shimmer the Night Away is the cool component to the collection. It also struck me as very similar to Wet n Wild's permanent palette Petal Pusher, so check below for a side by side comparison!

Shimmer the Night Away has two cohesive columns - all with cool undertones. The left side contains a satin cream shade, a shimmery silver, a sparkly dark gray, and a satin black peppered with silver sparkles. The right contains what is almost a duo-chrome satin gold and lavender (or lavender blush, as wikipedia calls it), a duo-chrome fuchsia and light purple, an amethyst with silver shimmer, and what is almost a true-blue with a purple tinge and silver sparkle.

Sadly, this palette didn't quite live up to the standards of the last two for me. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great palette for drugstores, but not so much by Wet n Wild standards. The dark gray from the left side of the palette applied unevenly, and all but the lid shade on the left side were more sheer than I expected. Still, packed over a white base, they will definitely become bolder and more toward what I expected - you just have to anticipate that.

In terms of dupes, the only shades that really stuck out to me as being similar were the cream colored brow bone shades and the dark gray crease shade from the Shimmer the Night Away Palette paired with the definer shade from the petal pusher palette. Aside from that, I was pleased that the rest of the shades were relatively unique to the line (although the silver appears in the Blue Had Me At Hello palette).

Verdict:

If you love unique purples and traditional grays, this would be the palette for you. While all of these palettes are worth the $4.99 in terms of quantity, I would be more inclined to get another palette with more consistent quality amongst the shadows. You can find these shadows at drugstores and grocery stores that carry cosmetics near you. If you are looking for a good source to find the stores these have been spotted at, I highly recommend Nouveau Cheap's Interactive Spotting Map!
