Glam Bag Review: Sheer Cover Duo Concealer

This is the a somewhat belated post, but I was on the fence about this concealer and needed to give it a long-term trial.
SheerCover Duo Concealer in Light/Medium

MyGlam describes this concealer as providing "variable coverage-sheer and creamy perfect for under eye circles for more opaque blenishes, scars, etc." The two colors provide the opportunity to perfectly match your skin tone.
Unblended

Blended

The reason I have been so on-the-fence about this concealer is that it's "gotta-have-it" quality wasn't immediately apparent. After all, it doesn't have salmon undertones to cancel dark under-eye color, or caffeine to fight bags, or even particularly heavy coverage as many concealers boast. It took a few uses to realize that the novelty in this product is in the buildability. While this may not be unique to some, others may notice that their concealer is too thin, with too little coverage, even when layered. Others find that a fuller coverage concealer clumps and creases when a little extra is applied for heavy duty jobs. This concealer reaches a happy medium where, as MyGlam says in the description, you can cover anything from under-eye spots to blemishes. The consistency seems thin when swiping it from the pan, but blends to have a more heavy coverage than you might expect. Here are the results on me:

Before
After
The differences are subtle, but if you look at the red blemishes and slight discoloration under my eyes in the before picture, you can see an improvement after.

I was lucky enough to have gotten a color that matched me well. The lighter of the two is good for my current skin tone, the darker for my future, more bronzed self, and the shades I will reach in between. In that respect, the packaging - or more the idea of having two shades in one round - is unique and very handy year-round. However, for me, the packaging was also one of the downsides to this product. I am not, nor will I ever be, someone who likes to stick my fingers in the pan of a product day after day to apply. Call me a germaphobe, but all I can think of when I see products in jars or pots is a petri dish of my own bacteria. Also, if you can tell by the picture, the product gets smeared on and around the packaging. While not a deal-breaker, some may find it messy and less desirable.

Overall, I really like this concealer. While I'm not crazy about the packaging, you may not mind and I would encourage you to try it! Sheer Cover is having a My Glam special where you can receive this concealer in a 5 piece kit (and three bonus gifts!) for $19.95.

NOTD: ELF "Dark Navy" and Finger Paints "Flashy"

I tweeted a NOTD weeks ago using a black OPI polish and ESSIE's new 'Luxe Effects polish in "Shine of the Times". Unfortunately, neither of those polishes were mine, so now that I am back at school I'm itching for a flaky polish of my own. Finger Paints, sold at Sally Beauty, came out with a flaky line that is almost identical to ESSIE's polish, but a few $2-3 cheaper. This look is a near dupe for the one I had before, but over $8 cheaper!

The florescent lighting is doing nothing for the flecks, but they are definitely there! There are other polishes in the Finger Paint line with different colored flecks, but I recommend "Flashy" to best dupe ESSIE's because the flecks have the same orange hue.

Review and Swathfest: Boots No. 7 Stay Perfect Eyeliener

It's official, brights are going to be in this Spring and I'm so stoked! I find that the easiest way to incorporate a bright color into your makeup is to either rock one on the lips or as subtly edgy liner. Boots No. 7 Stay Perfect Eyeliner in Sapphire has one of those bases covered...for a very long time.

Boots No. 7 Stay Perfect Eyeliner in Sapphire

I have never tried a liner from Boots' No. 7 collection, but this one is really driving me to gobble all of the liners in this line up. The consistency is smooth, the pigmentation is wonderful, they staying power is so good, it might stick around a little too long, and the color is the most vibrant I have seen out of a liquid liner.

Excuse the bag under the eye, but I had to show you this little trial I did to see if it really popped while still on the eye. Conclusion? A big fat yes. The consistency is thicker than most liquid liners I've tried and it dries down fast, but once you learn to work with it, application is easy as pie.

My one gripe with this product may be the fact that it stays for so long! It takes a lot of scrubbing with eye makeup remover and anything that's left right at the base of the lashes takes over a day to wear off. Maybe this is a sign I'm not doing a thorough job at taking my eye makeup off, but I am at a loss for how to scrub in between my lashes.

Still, with an $8.99 price tag (at Target stores), great pigmentation, and texture that feels like that of Urban Decay, I'll take this liner to perk up my spring and summer looks any day!

Looking for a way to incorporate color into your look this spring? Check out how I work this liner into a summer brights tutorial:

Sample Society: A Monthly Beauty Sampler with BeautyBar.com and Allure

There is a new guy on the monthly beauty subscription block! I just received an email from Allure, and they are partnering with BeautyBar.com- an online beauty boutique- to provide a monthly beauty sampler, called "Sample Society" to those who sign up. So, let's hear the details:

For $15 a month, you will receive:
-5 deluxe sized luxury brands along the lines of Murad, Stila, and Bond No.9 (these are the examples they give)
-$15 code to redeem on $50 purchase (if products that you received are in your order)
-"Expert beauty advice" that comes along with your samples every month
-1 year subscription to Allure

Aside from the subscription to Allure, this seems to be similar to what nearly every subscription is offering. Although, instead of giving you points, like Birchbox, or discount codes, like MyGlam, you get $15 off a $50 purchase through BeautyBar.com. While you do have to order something in order for this to be useful, should you take advantage of the discount, the box would pay for itself.

Besides these facts there isn't much I can tell you until about its contents until I receive one (that will ship March 5th). Even then, I'm a little hesitant to do much reporting on it considering what happened with MyGlam. If you are unfamiliar, their premier bag was primarily mid-to-high end cosmetics which had everyone and their dog clamoring for a subscription. The next bag contained more of a mix between beauty and facial products that fell within a wider price range - some toward the lower end. While not necessarily bad, it left some feeling like this wasn't the bag they signed up for. But, with only one other bag to go off of, how could they have really known? Essentially what I am saying it this: I will definitely post an opening video and a review of the products, but until a few of them have come out, it will be hard to get a solid idea regarding what to expect in your sample bag.

If, like me, you are interested in being on Sample Society's maiden voyage, you can go to BeautyBar's website to sign up for an account (free) and see what it's all about for yourself. One thing that I really like about this site is the referral program. If you use the code "BaileyB", they will donate up to $25 to one of a few charities they have chosen. While they don't specify how much per person gets donated, and the person that is referred has to make a purchase before any amount will be donated, the idea that a referral perk goes to  charity rather than an individual is pretty great!

What do you think of Sample Society? Will you be subscribing?
