Review & Swatchest: glô·minerals glôShimmer brick highlight powder in Gleam

glô·minerals glôShimmer brick in Gleam

glô·minerals glôShimmer brick in gleam is a quad of four shimmery shades that I actually confused for eyeshadows when I first opened it. Gleam contains a light gold that isn't overwhelmingly warm, a soft plum/taupe, a light pink, and a frosty white. When mixed together, they create a light mauve with white frost. This is a slightly cooler counterpart to luster, a warmer quad with more earth-tones and no frosted white.

When I first swatched each shade, I thought they seemed powdery and chunky and not something I would want on my face. I later realized that I achieved the swatches I did because I was still expecting them to have the payoff of eyeshadow. In reality, these are meant to be sheer, tinted washes of shimmer. So, naturally, when you try and build them up so they are pigmented, they will be powdery. When you actually apply them as a facial highlight, they sheer out smoothly and leave behind just a hint of the color you see in the pan. To see them in action, check out the tutorials below where I use the gold in one, and the white and pink mixed together in another.

The packaging feels a little slapped together with four pans seemingly glued into the bottom of a container meant for another product, but I haven't encountered any problems with it. In fact, the lip the packaging creates above the shades makes it better for swirling a brush into without making an absolute shimmery mess. Still, it's not the prettiest configuration you will come across for similar products at this price point.

For $33, the product quality is great and offers lots of versatility with the number of color combinations it offers. However, I would also think for that price the packaging would of a little higher quality. As I said before, it isn't by any means shoddy quality! It just doesn't look like a $33 product and, to some, that might matter. Packaging qualms aside, I really like this highlighter and think it would flatter nearly any skin tone despite being the cooler palette of the two available.
