Review & Swatchfest: VS Pro Radiant FX Face Illuminator

VS Pro Radiant FX Face Illuminator

It's to no one's surprise that everyone's skin needs an extra moisture boost in the winter, but getting that extra surge of moisture doesn't always promise to restore the extra radiance that the summer sun is so good at giving skin. Enter illuminator.

Victoria's Secret VS Pro Radiant FX Face Illuminator is a pink-based cream with ultra-fine gold shimmer (wich really ends up being a more pearlescent finish). The consistency is great for wearing alone, as a highlight over foundation and blush, or mixing in with foundation to add a subtle all-over glow. I think the pink base is universally flattering, leaning neither too warm or cool, and the gold blends in beautifully with even my somewhat neutral undertone. Those with drier skin might even prefer a liquid highligher like this over a powder because it adds a little extra moisture to parched winter skin.

Long-time readers will know that I'm a highlighter fanatic, so it will come as no shock that this isn't the first liquid illuminator I've reviewed on this blog. Josie Maran's Argan Illuminator is a similar product that I reviewed, and loved, about a year ago. I used it exactly as I recommended above and fell in love with its gorgeous champagne shimmer. The main differences between the two are the color (which is relatively subtle when actually worn), the texture (Maran's is slightly thicker and harder to dispense in small amounts), and cost. Josie Maran's Argan Illuminator costs $28 for 1 fl. oz. whereas Vickie's is only $15 for 1.4 fl. oz. Granted, Maran's boasts the skin benefits reaped from using Argan oil, but I didn't notice any long term differences in skin benefits between the two.

I've never seen a VS model stepping on the runway without flawless, glowing skin, so is anyone really surprised that a great highlight comes from Victoria's Secret? I think not. To see Radiant FX Face Illuminator in action, check out the Candace Swanpoel tutorial below!
