A few weeks ago, I let you know about the MAKE UP FOR EVER mobile tour going all over the US (and Canada) to remix your makeup bag. I knew this was a tour I didn't want to miss, so I met the tour down in Dallas and went with my mom!
In my makeup bag, I chose to include most of the MAKE UP FOR EVER items I already own so I can learn how to use the like an MUFE pro. Among the more challenging products I brought was the Flash Color Palette. With the buzz and raves from the beauty community, it was at the top of my Christmas list, but besides using it as an eyeshadow base or blush, I had no idea what else I could do with it. Turns out, it has you covered from foundation to mascara! I wanted to try the Matte Velvet + foundation, so I didn't experience it as a foundation, but everything else - contour, blush, highlight, and eyes - was all custom mixed from the Flash Palette. While I'm going to save the mixing tips and color theory for another post or video, there were some quick tips that both my mom and I got to take home with us. I was so engaged in my session that I forgot to take pictures! Luckily, my mom has hers shortly after mine, so I was able to snap a few shots of her remix.
Although she accidentally left her makeup bag at home, my mom went with a mission to find the perfect concealer and find the eyeshadow look for her. I think they hit both out of the park! In addition to matching her with the right shade of concealer, the makeup artist working on her taught her a technique to apply concealer neither of us had heard of! My mom had gotten out of the practice of wearing eye makeup every day, and when she started experimenting again, she didn't feel like she could get it to look quite like it used to. The fix came in the form of an eye lift - seriously! The "lifted eye" look catered to my mom's almond shaped eyes and gave them a smoky daytime look without being overwhelming.
After all was said and done, we were given $20 and $40 Rent the Runway vouchers and were told we could go upstairs to have our "after" shots taken. In addition to walking away with some glamour shots, we received two FULL SIZED smoky lash mascaras! Not only were all of the makeup artists friendly with a fun attitude, but there was no pressure to purchase anything - which I know is a real turn off for some when it comes to going to sponsored events. This was all about having fun and finding the look that worked for you. Of course that didn't mean that we didn't go straight into the MAKE UP FOR EVER store in the mall (one of a handfull in the US) and get some of the products they used (Matte Velvet + was everything I hoped for and more!).
Bottom line: the tour still has 5 more dates and I really recommend you hitting one up for a good time. If you don't have time for a full session, there were multiple stations set up throughout the mall where people could go for a touch up.
