Review & Swatchfest: Etude House Sweet Recipe Dear My Jelly Lips-talk

When it comes to reasonably or cheaply priced makeup, it's easy to look past shoddy or boring packaging as long as the product inside is good. But, the more I'm trying from Etude House, the more I'm finding that I don't have to compromise one to have the other! It turns out that the ice cream cone nail polishes I reviewed weren't an isolated incident and Etude House has multiple products that promise packaging and performance.

Etude House Sweet Recipe Dear My Jelly Lip-talk might have a puzzling name, but essentially it's a balm-stain. Packed in a lipstick tube, the product has a smooth, thin consistency that leave a sheer stain on lips while also providing some shine - hence the "jelly" in the name. In comparison to Revlon's popular Balm Stains, this is less opaque and shinier, but the concept is still the same. JPK002 is a candy-coated pink that looks shockingly pink in the tube, but sheers out to a lighter, but still bold, pink. The glossy finish didn't last longer than the first few sips I took from a drink about an hour and a half after wear, but the color stained my lips for over 4 hours!

The lipstick tube it comes in is ornate by drugstore lipstick standards and the product itself has a lovely emblem embossed on it. Like any other drugstore lipstick, the tube is plastic, but doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart in my purse anytime soon.

For $8.50, this lipstick/balm stain not only performs as well as its drugstore equivalents, but it kicks their sad, sorry butts in the looks department. Although some might find it too cutesy for their taste, you have to admit that it brings a little zest to the affordable makeup market. You can purchase Etude House products from KollectionK.
