Review & Swatchfest: theBalm Put A Lid On It Eye Primer

theBalm Put A Lid On It Eye Primer
theBalm makes stellar eyeshadows, so it was only a matter of time before they debuted an eye primer. Put A Lid On It Eye Primer is similar to many in the same price range. It's a thin, sheer liquid packaged in a tube so its easy to dispense and apply. Mine is packaged in a sample tube from a previous Birchbox, but the actual product comes in a .4 fl. oz. tube for $18 which makes it a better deal than Urban Decay's Primer Potion or Too Faced Shadow Insurance.

Unlike each of the previously mentioned formulas, theBalm's primer is very thin and almost watery feeling, so a little goes a long way. Once it dries, it lacks the powdery finish similar primers have and feels weightless on your lids. Although it comes out of the tube as having a light flesh tone, it sheers out into nothing and takes over 30 second to dry fully. I definitely wouldn't call it "quick-drying", as theBalm does. In fact, this is probably the slowest drying primer I've ever tried. This is great if you like applying shadows to a tacky base, but it ultimately doesn't have an effect on how efficient this product is at priming. After I applied it in the morning, my shadows lasted crease and fade-free for well over 8 hours! I noticed minor fading after the 10 hour mark. I would say that's effective! I don't have excessively oily lids, so it's hard to tell whether or not this would yield the same results for those that do, but I think it's worth trying.

Given how well Put A Lid On It functions, and how its a relatively better deal than similar primers in this price range, I would say this is a must-have for the sheer primer-lover. You can purchase it through theBalm's website or get free shipping for a limited amount of time when you buy it through Birchbox.

  2. I got a sample of this in my Birchbox and fell in LOVE. It is by far the best primer I've used, so I went out and bought the full size. :P

  3. Hi Bailey! Do you have The Balm's Nude Tude palett? I just bought it from Haute Look and would love to see a tutorial on it and your take on a glam look and a work look. Thank you for this review.

    1. I do, Lisa! I've done a look with it here on the blog as well as an "amped up daytime tutorial" on my Youtube channel. I'll link both below. Thanks for reading and commenting!

  4. Thanks for the review! I was sad I didn't receive this in my January Birchbox, so it's nice to read your review on it. :)
