First Impressions Review: Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Foundation in Ivory

Benefit Oxygen Wow Foundation

I've been wanting to try Benefit's Oxygen Hellow Flawless Wow Foundation since it first came out. The short-lived craze where everyone was promising oxygen-infused product got to me and, even though I was skeptical of how just how effective these products could be at delivering oxygen to my skin (and why my skin even needed oxygen), I loved the sound of "Oxygen Wow". Both Oxygen AND Wow? It had to be good.

During my last visit to ULTA, I was finally given the chance when they slipped a few extra 10 day trial vials in my bag after my mom bought the new Fakeup Concealer. Today was the first time I've tired it, so while this is somewhat of a review, I will call it a "first impressions" as I like to test my foundation for a solid 5-7 days. Still, it's enough to evaluate coverage and wear time, so let's get to it!

Benefit's Hello Flawless Foundation claims a natural light to medium coverage and that's just what it provides - it almost completely covered my light freckles and tones down the redness around minor blemishes. The texture is thin, but creamy with a satin, yet glowing finish, and a narrow range of coverage. I didn't notice a huge difference between the spots I had a thin layer on and those that I tried to layer up for coverage. Because of that, I would say it scores low on the "buildable" scale. Overall, I would say that makes it good for those who are looking for their foundation to even out their skin tone rather than completely cover hyperpigmentation or blemishes.

I was disappointed with the wear time of this product. After 8 hours, I found that the pigment under my eyes had slightly reappeared, blemishes were uncovered, and my cheeks had patchy coverage. Typically, my combination skin type shows wear fast in my T-zone which leads me to believe that the unevenness on the cheeks is due to the foundation. I also noticed that subsequent products I applied, like contour, blush, and concealer, didn't last as long as they typically do. Keep in mind: I didn't use a primer or set it with a powder, so I was really asking for the bare minimum wear time. But I've tested the last few foundations sans primer or powder and not noticed any of the above characteristics. Still, one positive thing I experience with the wear is the lack of dewiness or shine I had at the end of the day. It stayed satiny and natural looking all day! As with any foundation, wear time and quality will vary with skin type.

This is a great foundation for those who like a natural look without wanting a lot of coverage. I was impressed that the satin finish stayed as such throughout the day without setting powder. While I was more than a little disappointed with the wear time and the effect it had on the other products I wore, it could be something easily fixed with primer/powder, and it might vary from person to person.
