Review & Swatchfest: Mary Kay Cream Eye Color in Apricot Twist

At this point, I have so many cream shadows I could build a fort for a beanie baby. I don't know if it's their ability to multitask as primers, color bases, and standalone shadows, or if I'm just easily sucked into their creamy goodness (only kidding, I know it's both), but whenever I come across a new shade or brand, I go nuts. Addiction is such an ugly word - I prefer cream shadow connoisseur.

Mary Kay's Cream Eye Color Line promises a creamy, buildable formula that lasts up to 10 hours. Apricot Twist is a frosted warm gold with peachy leanings. Of the things I have to compare it to, it's less patchy and more orange leaning that Maybelline's Color Tattoo in Bold Gold. Despite being shimmery, the texture is very fine and smooth, leading to a flawless application that's very blendable until it dries down to almost a powder consistency (about 30 seconds). Worn alone, I noticed solid crease-proof, fade-proof wear past the 8 hour mark, so I believe it should deliver on its 10 hour claim. Applied as a sheer wash, it provides a hint of color on the lid, but can also be built up to be as bold as it appears in the pot without getting crepe-y. Overall I was pleasantly surprised with how well this cream shadow performed!

Mary Kay Cream Eye Colors retail for $13 - smack dab between the drugstore price point and the likes of MAC. Overall, it's another stellar cream shadow that I've come across recently. If the color stands out as one you must have, I think it's a great addition for the person who likes to wear cream shadows alone or as a base, and I'm not aware of a cheaper dupe than can equal its performance!
