Review & Swatches: Rimmel Glam'Eyes Quad Eyeshadow in Afternoon Tea and Mayfair

Rimmel Glam'Eyes Quad Eyeshadow in Afternoon Tea and Mayfair
My experiences with Rimmel's Glam'Eyes Quad Eyeshadows has been less than impressive (see my reviews on Precious Crown and Green Sapphire), but I recently ran across three new quads -along with their new Exaggerate Undercover Shadow Primer - and thought I would give them another go. What initially attracted me to both of these quads was that they both contained two matte shadows - a rarity among drugstore palettes. Both of the Rimmel palettes I previously tried contained nothing but shimmery or glittery shadows, so I though this was a sign of a better things to come.

Afternoon Tea is a cool-toned neutral palette that contains a light champaign shimmer, deep matte chocolate brown, light satin taupe, and medium matte camel. All of the shades are smooth with the two satin finish shades being the most pigmented. While the deep chocolate wasn't as pigmented as I had hoped, it was smooth and not streaky or powdery for a matte shadow. The medium camel, on the other hand, was a disappointment. It would have been the perfect blending shade if it had just been more pigmented.

Mayfair is even cooler than Afternoon Tea, but contains a light frosted pink along with a satin grey-taupe, deep matte brown, and light matte cream. While Mayfair's satin shades have the same smooth, pigmented quality as Afternoon Tea, the mattes apply less evenly and are less pigmented, making this palette worse overall. Still, if you are looking for a softer, more romantic look this is the palette is the way to go.

While neither of these palettes blew me away, it might not hurt for a neutral-lover to pick up Afternoon Tea. At $6.99, it has well-performing shadows in a nice mix of finishes and shades for an everyday look that can easily transform into a smoky night look. But, after creating two different looks using each palette, I found they looked nearly identical. Owning both palettes is definitely not essential.
