Review & Swatches: Laura Geller 25 Shades of Baked Eye Color Portfolio

Laura Geller 25 Shades of Baked Eye Color Portfolio
Known for the quality and pigmentation of her baked powders, Laura Geller has quite the release for the holidays: 25 Shades of Baked Eye Color Portfolio! Arranged into color coordinated columns, this palette has everything from light neutrals to deep jewel tones. Another great thing about baked shadows is the ability to use them both dry for a more sheer finish and wet for a more intense, opaque finish. While there aren't any matte finishes in the mix, shades like onyx and violet come off as more of a satin finish when used wet and applied fully opaque. Don't let the lack of mattes or satins deter you though - despite being shimmery there aren't many shadows that have chunky glitter. Many of them have a strong metallic finish. All of the shadows feel smooth and blend easily when applied, but some of the more shimmery color had spotty coverage when worn dry. Nothing that can't be fixed with a damp brush!

The configuration of this palette is particularly appealing for someone as someone who likes to have a straightforward look to put together when trying to get out the door in the morning. Although there's tons of mixing and matching that can be done, each of the columns is organized into rows according to color i.e. browns, greens, purples, etc. While on the topic of packaging, I also want to touch on the sturdy, luxe case the set comes in, along with the large mirror that stands upright when open. Although it's a tad large, it's still practical for someone who travels and wants an all-in-one palette.

The last notable aspect of this palette is the double ended brush that's included. On one side is a fluffy shader brush, and on the other is a thin angled brush. While I prefer using a more dense, stiff brush to apply shadows wet, the one included is great for applying them dry. The angled liner brush is stiff enough to draw a fine, pigmented line, but not hard or harsh - two things you don't want anywhere near your lash line!

You can pick Laura Geller's 25 Shadows of Baked Eye Color Portfolio collection on QVC for $65.98 - an absolute steal considering what her baked eyeshadows normally retail for. This would make a great gift for the Laura Geller lover, the makeup lover, or even someone who's just testing the makeup waters with the great mix of soft neutrals and bold shades included.

What holiday sets are you loving?
