Review & Swatches: City Color Be Matte Blushes

City Color Be Matte Blushes

While not my first experience with City Color Cosmetics, the Be Matte Blush ($2.99) I received in my February Ipsy Bag was so impressive I decided it was worth looking into the others within the line. Given how difficult it can be to find a matte blush that isn't chalky, excessively powdery, or lacking pigmentation, I had to explore a line where for just $2.99 you could have a matte blush that did it all. Among the 8 shades available within the line, I now have:

Fresh Melon -  light coral
Dragonfruit -  hot pink
Toasted Coconut - neutral cocoa
Blackberry - soft mauve
Papaya - warm cocoa

All were consistent with the initial shade I tried (Fresh Melon) and have spectacular pigmentation without a chalky consistency. Toasted Coconut in particular functions well as a contour shade and is very similar to, albeit a little deeper than, Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer. In the dry winter weather, these have some serious longevity, wearing well throughout the day until I needed to take them off at night. I'm sure this will vary as the weather warms and my foundation's lasting power is tested, but it looks like the pigmentation will last no matter where it may migrate to on your face.

Overall, these are a fantastic buy at $2.99 a blush! City Color will also offer the occasional coupon code (like 14IPSY20 for 20% off your purchase until 3/15/2014), so search around before you purchase.
