Review & Swatches: Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick
Late to the party as usual, I hopped on the Urban Decay's Revolution Lipstick banwagon when they released a limited edition set called The Stockpile last winter. With 10 lip liners and 10 lipsticks, it promised to be the motherlode of Urban Decay lippies. As someone who hadn't tried any, I was looking forward to becoming very familiar with the collection - especially given all the great things I'd heard after the launch of their newly formulated Revolution Lipsticks! This review will be exclusively for the lipstick - although the set contained the corresponding liners.

Promising to be a highly pigmented, long-wearing lipsticks that comes with a smooth application, these lipsticks have it all. Each of the colors I have applies without tugging, adds moisture and comfort to lips, and last for hours on end (approximately 4+ depending on the shade - bright shades tend to stain the lips for longer, even after the finish wear off). The only variance I found between shades was how their creaminess led to slight bleeding outside the lip line. For instance, 69 is insanely emollient, but it also takes a line and some care to keep it in the lip line. Other, like Venom, stay budge-free without any help. Naked 2 has a similar texture and tendency, but migrating outside the lip line is less of a concern given how closely it matches my skin tone. These were the only two shades I really noticed this with - the rest are perfection! The shades below are as follows:

  • 69: Bright red with pink undertones
  • Anarchy: Bright fuchsia
  • Bang: Bright orange-red
  • Liar: Pinky-brown nude
  • Manic: Soft wine
  • Naked 2: medium beige-nude
  • Native: Pale pink
  • Streak: Coral pink
  • Turn On: Rosy pink
  • Venom: Bright plum

Individually, Revolution Lipsticks retail for $22 a piece - a steep price to pay for 4+ hours of lip color perfection. But perfection is exactly what you are paying for. The smooth application, moisturizing properties, and long wear make this an ideal lipstick, so I recommend finding your perfect shade and indulging!
