Review, Swatches, & Lip Combos: NYX Macaron Lippies

NYX's Macaron Lippies recently launched, and I couldn't help but place an order! Sure, the colors are a far cry from what I consider an "everyday" lip color, but that's not to say that others wouldn't wear them frequently or that you couldn't use them to switch up lip colors you already have in your collection. Can you tell I put some thought into how I could justify this purchase? A 25% off coupon code for my first purchase from NYX's website helped too - use code WELCOME25 at checkout!

Back to the review, this collection contains 12 lip shades that range from pastels to neons, and I have 8 to review for you today:

Chambord: Black
Lavender: Lavender
Citron: Sunflower yellow
Rose: Soft, pastel rose
Key Lime: Neon lime green
Pistachio: Cross between aqua and mint
Blue Velvet: Vibrant ocean blue
Earl Grey: Muted cornflower blue

All shades are cream-finish - neither matte, nor completely glossy. While there is a faint vanilla scent to each one, it's not no overwhelming that those that are bothered by scents would mind. The shade experienced the most issues with was Citron. It was hard to get an even application and once it warmed up with my body heat, the product slid all over my lips, making it difficult to get a solid application. Similar issues with Key Lime arose, but I found that was easily fixed by building the product up to the opacity I wanted and then blotting off with a tissue or my finger. This sheered the coverage out, but the color payoff is still pretty bold. Beyond those shades, each one had great coverage, glided on smoothly and evenly, and had decent wear-times at around 3 hours. For $6, these are some great bold lippies!

For those thinking, "No way I'm wearing these!" Hold up! These can also be mixed with lip products that already exist in your collection to make fun, new, unexpected colors. Don't believe me? See how I managed a flattering peach shade (the one I'm wearing in the video above) by combining a light pink and Key Lime! Sure it takes a little more work than just swiping on a lipstick and moving on with your day, but something tells me you wouldn't be here if you didn't like to play with makeup every now and then.
