MAKEUP WARS: Anastasia Maya Mia Palette

Anastasia Maya Mia Palette
This week's Makeup Wars challenge was to come up with a look or two using Anastasia Beverly Hill's brand new Maya Mia Palette! Named after makeup artist and YouTuber Maya Janeska, this palette is full of 10 warm shadows that coordinate to make a tropical-looking shade selection. There's a great mix of mattes and shimmers that range from a light cream to a deep chocolate brown, making an eye look with great depth and dimension a snap. Better still, all of the shades can be used both wet and dry! To show how they performed both ways, I created two looks - one with a little more color, and the other a more traditional smoky eye. Check out the picture tutorials below!

Overall, I was really impressed with the way all of the shadows in this palette performed. While I was a little concerned with how warm many of the shades lean, I'm in love with the way they look when worn! I found they blended easily and seamlessly into each other - even the mattes, which can have a tendency to be extra finicky in application. Not so with this palette. I found each of them to be smooth and finely-milled.

With 10 shades at $29, I think this palette is a fantastic buy whether you enjoy a classic neutral eye, or hints of tropical colors. Given that it's my first adventure with Anastasia shadows, I think I'm hooked!

Check out the tutorials below, and be sure to check out the looks all of the other Makeup Wars babes came up with!

Top Row: Nude, Deep Brown, Sienna, Warm Taupe, Vanilla

Row 2: Aqua, Fresh Peach, Glisten, Caramel, Gold Bar

Get the Fresh Peach & Gold Look:

  1. Apply Gold Bar to the inner half of the eye lid with a flat shader brush.
  2. Pat Fresh Peach on the outer half of the lid with the other side of the same flat shader.
  3. Sweep Aqua along the lower lash line with the narrow tip of a flat shader brush.
  4. Blend the crease using the shade Nude and a tapered blending brush.
  5. Use an angled brush to pat Sienna into the outer corner, blending into Fresh Peach.
  6. Deepen the outer corner using the same angled brush, and the shade Deep Brown.
  7. Apply an aqua blue liner to the bottom lashes - I'm using Etude House Play 101 Liner in 37.
  8. Apply a few coats of mascara - I'm using Lancome's Grandiose Mascara.

Get the Glistening Caramel Look:

  1. Apply Vanilla to the inner corner using the flat shader end of the brush that comes with the palette. Dampen slightly before each of the following steps.
  2. Pat Glisten on the inner half of the lid using the other end of the flat shader brush that comes with the palette.
  3. Pat Caramel on the outer half of the lid, blending into the crease.
  4. Sweep Nude in the crease to blur any harsh borders Caramel created.
  5. Use the smaller, tapered end of the brush that comes with the palette to apply Deep Brown to the outer corner.
  6. Apply black liquid liner on the upper lash line to create a winged liner - I'm using Starlooks Precision Eye Liner in Black.
  7. Apply a black pencil liner to the waterline - I'm using Etude House Play 101 liner in 1.
  8. Apply a few coats of mascara - I'm using Lancome's Grandiose Mascara.
