Review: Maybelline Fit Me! Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation and Pressed Powder

Adding to the mix of matte drugstore foundations, Maybelline has launched a new Fit Me foundation duo - the Matte + Poreless Foundation and Pressed Powder. They've also updated their original Fit Me liquid foundation and pressed powder to reflect a "Dewy + Smooth" finish. Given that the original formula wasn't a match for my combination skin, I was eager to give the newest addition a try with the hope that it would provide all-day, flawless matte coverage. Check out action shots of the performance below!

Lets start with the liquid formula. The consistency is thin, which allows for buildable coverage. Whether you want to lightly even out your complexion, or (almost) completely cover minor hyperpigmentation and freckles, this foundation can do it! I'm pretty impressed with the coverage and matte finish this foundation achieves without looking heavy and caky. Unfortunately, the lasting power is a different story. Worn without the accompanying pressed powder, the flawless coverage and matte finish are long gone by the end of the day. While the pressed powder certainly helped extend the wear, it couldn't keep this foundation going for a full 10 hours - I noticed signs of wear and tear around the 6 hour mark.

On to the Pressed Powder. While it's offered in shades that match the coordinating liquid foundation, the Fit Me Matte + Poreless Pressed Powder doesn't offer any additional coverage. It really functions as more of a setting powder, but given the way my foundation wore throughout the day when I used it, it's not a very good one. I would recommend sticking to your preferred setting powder if it's already working for you.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend either of these foundations. The full coverage and matte finish starts strong, but flops in the end. But that's not to say there aren't good matte foundation alternatives! For those that prefer liquid foundation, I recommend CoverGirl's Ready, Set, Gorgeous Liquid and Powder Foundations. These provide the same buildable coverage with a satin/matte finish. For a truly full coverage matte finish with less room to layer, Rimmel's Stay Matte Mousse Foundation is one of my favorites. And for those that like a stick foundation, Maybelline's Fit Me! Shine-Free foundation is great for layering up to build a flawless matte finish that lasts all day.
