My go-to Summer makeup look

Spring is officially here, and Summer is quickly approaching. Now that I'm in the South, it seems like it's sneaking up faster than normal - so I'm getting into my Summer makeup groove, and fast! The products might change from year to year, but my look always stays the same: light foundation, budge-proof blush, a matte crease and bright or sparkly lid, and a "your lips, but better" lip color.

See how I get my go-to Summer look using my latest favorite melt-proof makeup in the video above!

Sephora VIB Haul + Reviews

It's that magical time of year again! Sephora's semi-annual VIB sale has just wrapped up, and I'm sharing the goodies I have to show for it. Learn more in the video above, and check out close-ups and swatches in the pictures below!

Products Mentioned:

  • Kat Von D Lock-It Primer: Now that I need a base that can withstand the Texas heat, I've decided to start looking for the perfect primer! I fell in love with the light texture of this primer when I tried it in-store. I'm not a huge fan of super-smooth silicone-based primers - they make me feel like my foundation is going to slip right off. This is something closer to a serum that sinks evenly into skin, leaving it smooth, hydrated, and primed for foundation. So far, I've loved how it makes my makeup last! But only time, and the dead heat of summer, will really put this primer to the test.
  • Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer: This is a classic case of "YouTube made me buy it". I wasn't a fan of the Naked Skin Foundation, so I wasn't particularly eager to try the matching concealer once it launched. It wasn't until Jaclyn Hill raved about it in her March favorites, calling it a lightweight, but completely full coverage concealer, that I decided I needed to have it. Needless to say, it definitely lives up to its name. The coverage is complete, but the texture is light so there's no worry of finding it in your fine lines after a few hours of wear.
  • NARS Dual Intensity Blush in Craving: I'm obsessed with the NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow formula, so this was a no-brainer. I was drawn to the duo in Craving because of the creamy highlight shade with a subtle pink iridescence - but the bronze shade has proven itself to be very versatile. Depending on your skin tone, this guy could either be used as a contour, bronzer, or even a bronzy blush - all of which I'm loving for summer. There's just one problem: now I want them all.
  • Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Kit: With all the hype surrounding this palette, I couldn't resist. I'm happy to say, the shadows are just as fantastic as the others from her line! I was a little worried that this would turn out to be just another matte palette. But after comparing it to those in my collection, I found that it's one of the few that exclusively contains neutral browns. The only comparable palettes I have are the Naked Basics 1 and 2 - but Kat Von D's Palette has a much wider shade range, and serves up more contrast.
  • Ardency Inn MODSTER Manuka Honey Enriched Pigment in Heaven: I've been dying to try Ardency Inn products for the longest time, but rarely remember to purchase them during sales because I've never seen the products in-store. Finally, I remembered this time around, and have some beautiful products to show for it! The first of which is a pressed shadow that performs like a pigment. Heaven is a rich, cool metallic champagne that applies beautifully.
  • Ardency Inn MODSTER Light-Catching Eye Powder in Teddy Boy: I'm a sucker for pigments, and Teddy Boy was calling my name! Described as a "lava red" with silver and turquoise reflects, this pigment becomes a vibrant brassy copper when worn over a base.
  • Ardency Inn MODSTER Smooth Ride Supercharged Eyeliner in Jade: Given the massive shade range the brand offers, it was hard to pick which liner I wanted to try. With the help of an Instagram follower, I was able to narrow down my selection to this gorgeous matte green. Smooth matte liners can be hard to come by, but this one definitely doesn't disappoint. I'm eager to work it into my Spring and Summer looks!
  • Ardency Inn MODSTER Long Play Lip Vinyl in Club Remix: This is one of the most unique lip formulas I've tried. It applies like a lip gloss, but has the opacity of a lipstick, and its texture is somewhere in between both. While not sticky, it has a high-shine finish that lasts for hours before leaving brightly stained lips behind. I decided to go bold with the shade Club Remix, a neon fuchsia.

Review & Swatches: ELF Lock On Gel Liner

Among some of the exciting products ELF has been launching, their Lock On Gel Eyeliners had me the most intrigued. Gel-based liners that are truly smooth, creamy, and long-lasting can be hard to find no matter the price point, so scoring some at $3 would be fantastic! I have 5 of the 6 shades available:

Crave it Black: An opaque matte black
Want it Brown: A blackened shimmery bronze
Need It Navy: A deep matte navy
Get it Green: A metallic emerald
Yes to Nude: A matte flesh tone

Quality varied from shade to shade. Crave it Black, Need it Navy, and Get it Green apply very smoothly, and are completely opaque with one pass. Want it Brown was a little more firm, and needed layering to get it to the swatch you see below (you can see it put to use in the video above). Yes to Nude took creaminess a step too far - it breaks every time I use it! If you don't mind working with a blunt liner, this works well as an all over shadow base, but it's too soft to line precisely without breaking.

Despite the texture differences, all of these liners deliver on the lasting power - even in the water line! I'm very particular with what I can and can't wear in my waterline. Too creamy, and it will rub off on my contacts. Too hard, and I have to line multiple times to see any kind of color payoff, and it leaves my eyes irritated. These liners fall in the happy medium, providing enough payoff to avoid layering, and potential irritation.

Overall: there are some real winners in this bunch! The must-have shades I recommend are Crave it Black, Need it Navy, and Get it Green. Want it Brown and Yes to Nude still have the same great lasting power as the first three, but had some texture shortcomings that some might not find worth $3.

FabFitFun Spring 2015 Unboxing + Exclusive Coupon!

After years of sticking to beauty-exclusive subscription services, I'm finally dipping my toes into the lifestyle pool, starting with FabFitFun! Rather than sending one box a month, FabFitFun sends 4 boxes a year packed with full-size products worth a total of $200 or more - for $49.99! Read on to learn more about what came in the Spring 2015 box, and use code honey10 to snag 10% off your first box.

Here's what's inside:
Jules Smith Scarf in Watercolor ($42): A cute, and super-soft addition to this season's box that will be perfect for layering with a white denim jacket (one of my staple pieces for Spring and Summer).
Merrithew 3 DVD Set "Intense Body Blast" + $25 Gift Card ($61): With the move, I've been thrown off my fitness groove. It's always hard finding a new gym/running route/fitness routine that fits into a new location, so this was an awesome addition because it's easy to sneak a quick workout in the morning or evening, without having to leave my living room. The $25 gift card is icing on the (healthy) cake. After browsing their online shop, I found that I can get another complete 2-DVD set! Wedding day wellness, here I come!
Vow to Be Chic Gift Card ($125): Speaking of wedding bells, this was a sweet little bonus that arrived just in time for wedding planing. Vow to be Chic offers designer dress rentals with an emphasis on bridesmaids dresses, and little white dresses. Perfect for someone looking to avoid a 27 Dresses situation, or a rehearsal dinner dress option that offers a designer silhouette without the designer price tag.
ORLY Nail BB Creme ($15): The alphabet cream trend has finally made its way to your nails. ORLY's BB Creme is a sheer nude polish that creates a natural-looking mani that smooths, moisturizes, and brightens natural nails.
ORLY Nail Polish in "Cake Pop" ($8.50): Off white polishes are big for spring - which is good news for the girls like me that tend to think pure white polish looks like Whiteout on my nails (a 90's beauty offense I'm definitely guilty of committing...when I wasn't busy applying my other fave shade, "Sharpie" black...). This pink-tinted white will be a fun way to rock the off-white trend this Spring!
OFRA Cosmetics Eyeshadow Brush Duo - #11 and #20 ($45.90): OFRA is way underrated in my book, so I was happy to see them in this box! I've been impressed with the cosmetics I've tried from them, so I was ecstatic to get a chance to try their brushes. The verdict: the smooth flat surfaces of these brushes make them perfect for applying cream products (more and more of which tend to make their way into my Spring and Summer beauty routine to help my makeup last), and their sizes make them perfect for working into the eye area - whether it's patting on cream shadow, or a long-lasting concealer.
Palmetto Derma Collagen Booster and Restoration Serum ($48): I need a little more time working this into my daily routine to get a feel for what it's doing for my skin, but so far I like it! At 26, my skin care concerns are still focused around avoiding breakouts, but wrinkle prevention is quickly making its way to the top of the list. While this super serum says it works to fill fine lines and minimize wrinkles, it also claims to fight skin-aging free radicals - so it offers a little something for just about everyone.
Yasi Metallic Flash Tattoos ($36): Just in time for festival season, these can add the right amount of glitz to any laid back summer look.
Rifle Paper Co. Cities Coasters Set ($16): I have to be honest - I didn't have coasters until now! These are a super useful addition to this box, and have a special significance to both Andrew and me because they are travel themed.
Sprout It App + Miracle Grow Gro-able Seed Pod ($1.49): I love fresh herbs, but wouldn't consider myself a green thumb. This was a cool addition to the box because they not only provide you with basil seeds, mulch, and fertilizer, but they also have an app that gives you with location-specific planting, harvesting, and watering tips!
Cosmos Creations Premium Puffed Corn ($1.49): This was easily the most delicious bonus product in the box. I wish I could say I made it last for the two servings it supposedly contains...but I downed the whole bag in one. Sorry, I'm not sorry!
Hello Fresh $40 Gift Card: This was another helpful bonus. Although I've ordered groceries online before, Hello Fresh is a grocery service that delivers complete meal kits directly to your door. I'm a huge culprit of buying fresh products to include in my next meal, but once I get home I find I've forgotten one or two crucial meal components, and the meal never gets made. I'm able to utilize most of the ingredients in other dishes, but there's alway that sad stalk of celery or pruny bunch of grapes that gets pushed to the back of the fridge. Hello Fresh sounds like a great service that ensures fresh food doesn't go to waste.

Needless to say, it was a great box! The mix of beauty, fitness, and lifestyle was a nice change of pace from the monthly makeup mix I'm used to receiving from Ipsy. I'm already looking forward to the summer box!
